Territory euthanasia push narrowly defeated in Senate

15 August 2018

Senators have been debating this whether the Northern Territory and ACT should be allowed to consider legalising voluntary euthanasia.

With Liberal and Labor senators allowed a conscience vote, it's made for a very emotional, personal and at times revealing debate.

The matter came down to two votes, with the Senate saying no to further discussion on the issue.

However, some MPs have vowed to continue the push, stating the issue is more about the democratic rights of the territories than about euthanasia.
