NEW FIGURES SHOW OUT OF WORK TERRITORIANS HIT WITH MORE THAN 63,000 NO SHOW, NO PAY PENALTIES LAST FINANCIAL YEAR

UNEMPLOYED Territorians appear to be the countrys biggest bludgers, but advocates say they are up against a system that sets them up to fail.

Federal Government figures show the Territorys jobless were hit with 63,565 no show, no pay penalties last financial year. In NSW, which has a population about 30 times that of the NT, just 24,944 penalties were doled out. A far greater proportion of welfare recipients in the NT report fall under the governments Community Development Program, a work for the dole scheme only in place in remote areas.
