CLP FAIL FAMILY VIOLENCE SERVICES IN KATHERINE

11 March 2019

The Morrison Government has failed the community of Katherine by leaving the Katherine Womens Information and Legal Service without funding certainty.

Earlier this month the Federal Government and local CLP candidates spent days talking up their flimsy commitment to family safety services.

Indigenous Affairs Minister Nigel Scullion and his CLP candidates have failed to ensure a vital service such as KWILS is able to continue its work.

It shows how thin their so called commitment to combatting family and domestic violence really is.

For many years KWILS has worked with residents in Katherine and the region to build stronger and safer families.

With 80 per cent of KWILS funding due to expire at the end of June, its not good enough that such a critical service may have to close its doors.

If Senator Nigel Scullion and the CLP are serious about supporting families and communities to stamp out family violence, they need to properly fund the frontline services.
