An Albanese Federal Labor Government will invest $7.5 million to upgrade the Casuarina Pool, delivering Darwinites the modern facilities they deserve.

The current Casuarina Pool has served the community well for more than 40 years, but it has seen better days. It’s time for a facility that’s made for 2022, not 1982.

Accessible public pools are vital to delivering a better life for working families in the top-end. That’s why Labor will partner with the City of Darwin to upgrade this site into a modern, family-friendly aquatic destination.

Local architect firm Ashford Group Pty Ltd has already developed the Draft Masterplan, which incorporates a resort-style lagoon, swimming pool and learn-to-swim pools, wet and dry play areas, fitness equipment, picnic and BBQ facilities, and space to co-locate a restaurant or café and allied health services.

This will improve liveability in the northern suburbs, giving families a fun, versatile place to cool off in a state-of-the-art facility.

While the City of Darwin has already committed $25 million of its own funds to the project, the Morrison-Joyce Federal Government has refused to come to the table. All that is needed for this project to get underway is a Federal Government committed to investing in Darwin’s future – and an Albanese Labor Government will do just that.

Labor’s infrastructure investments will deliver a better quality of life for working families so all Australians can enjoy a better future.
