UNEMPLOYED Territorians appear to be the countrys biggest bludgers, but advocates say they are up against a system that sets them up to fail.
Federal Government figures show the Territorys jobless were hit with 63,565 no show, no pay penalties last financial year. In NSW, which has a population about 30 times that of the NT, just 24,944 penalties were doled out. A far greater proportion of welfare recipients in the NT report fall under the governments Community Development Program, a work for the dole scheme only in place in remote areas.
