On behalf of Australian Labor, we congratulate the recipients of this years NAIDOC Awards and we acknowledge their incredible contributions.
These extraordinary Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians have made a difference for their people, their communities and their country.
Quite simply - our country is better as a result of their excellence, their advocacy and their leadership.
In particular, the role of First Nations women was a powerful thread woven into this years NAIDOC week, with the theme Because of her, we can! shone a light on the essential role that First Nations women have played - and continue to play in our Nation.
Labor recognises First Nations Women play a critical and active role at a local, regional, national and international level. Labor is committed to listening to their voices. We know that where their voices are heard, solutions lie.
This years recipients are the among the best examples of this.
