Prime Minister Scott Morrison needs to prove the Northern Territory will not be worse off under his proposed changes to the GST.

The NT Government has already rightly raised concerns about the long-term outlook for our economy under Mr Morrisons GST scheme.

The proposed GST redistribution scheme doesnt provide the Territory with any future certainty. No one can predict how any economy will be performing three, five or 10 years into the future.

Yet Prime Minister Morrisons proposed GST changes assume we will have an economic crystal ball.

Any watering down of horizontal fiscal equalisation could hit smaller states and territories the hardest.

Mr Morrison proved when he was Treasurer that he would hang the NT economy out to dry when he was prepared to cut $2 billion from our GST payments in 2017.
