SHADOW ASSISTANT MINISTER FOR INDIGENOUS AUSTRALIANS

SENATOR MALARNDIRRI MCCARTHY
DEPUTY OPPOSITION WHIP IN THE SENATE
SENATOR FOR THE NORTHERN TERRITORY

LUKE GOSLING OAM MP
CHAIR, INDO-PACIFIC TRADE TASKFORCE
MEMBER FOR SOLOMON

The Commonwealth Government must take immediate action to ensure Danila Dilba Health Service is not forced to turn away vulnerable Territorians in the midst of national vaccine roll out and a global pandemic.

The Commonwealth’s failure to take Danila Dilba’s concerns seriously, despite being raised with the Department of Health three months ago, is unacceptable and irresponsible. Danila Dilba has now been forced to close its doors to new and transient patients, putting the NT’s most vulnerable citizens at risk.

We are not yet through this pandemic. The Northern Territory remains vulnerable to a COVID outbreak which would devastate Aboriginal communities. Yet while the Morrison Government acknowledges the challenges facing Danila Dilba, it has offered no way forward to address these issues until 2023 at the earliest.

We urge the Morrison Government to take this seriously and work with Danila Dilba as a matter of urgency.

The Morrison Government has failed the vaccine roll out, failed to established national quarantine facilities, and is failing in its responsibility to keep Australians safe. Scott Morrison won’t take responsibility and Australians are paying the price
