MEDIA RELEASE: COMMONWEALTH FAILS TO SECURE A FAIR DEAL FOR TERRITORY SCHOOLS

26 June 2017

Malcolm Turnbulls $22 billion of cuts to schools will hurt Territory schools.

According to Mr Turnbulls plan, Territory schools look set to have their funding cut by millions of dollars.

Northern Territory schools, teachers, and students always get caned by Liberal Governments. For the last four years we have been disadvantaged because the former Territory Country Liberal Government inanely refused to sign the Gonski agreement in 2013. They spurned an historic opportunity to change the way our schools are resourced and refused to act on improvements to how our kids are educated.

Now, history is repeating itself with the Turnbull Government continuing to do what it does best: hurt those most vulnerable in our community.

While the Turnbull Government loves talking about kids in the Northern Territory living in challenging circumstances and requiring additional support to ensure they can achieve to the best of their abilities, time and time again they utterly fail to step up and address the problems.

As your Commonwealth representatives, we will always fight for the best education funding arrangement possible for Territory kids.
