It's not too late to register for the Katherine PFAS class action

14 April 2020

On 26 February 2020, an in-principle agreement was reached between the Department of Defence and Katherine residents affected by the PFAS contamination. Of the total settlement figure negotiated for landholders in Katherine, Oakey and Williamtown, $92.5 million was attributable to the Katherine class action.

Its not too late to register to join the class action.

If you own, or have owned residential or commercial property in the Katherine investigation area as at 23 November 2016, you can register your interest in the claim. Click here to download a copy of the investigation area map.

The deadline to take any steps, including to register if you have not already done so, is by 4pm AEST (3.30PM ACST) 7 May 2020.

The Federal Court has to approve the terms of the settlement and the distribution scheme, which will determine how compensation is distributed to members of the class action. This hearing will be held on 4-5 June.

What if I disagree with the settlement amount?

If you disagree with the proposed settlement (or any aspect of how it is proposed to be distributed), you should express this in writing for the Court to consider well before the hearing. This should be done by sending the material to [email protected], and the court would prefer if this was sent by 7 May 2020.
